Past
On Oct. 24th 1971, the Holy Spirit gathered 140 people together at the Brushenbrook Hunting and Fishing Club in Cheektowaga for our congregation’s first worship service. The following May, on Pentecost Sunday, Lord of Life Lutheran Church was officially organized. Our vision was to become a vibrant, life-giving congregation, devoted to serving people and the community in Christ’s name, in a manner that made a substantial difference in their lives. That vision shaped the multipurpose design of our first building erected in 1973 and officially named “Lord of Life Worship and Ministry Center.” Step by step we followed the call of Christ to make disciples. In 1974 we launched our Child
Development Center. During our second decade we felt called to address the concerns of the elderly in our community. This resulted in the construction of the Lord of Life Adult Day Health Center in 1984 and the beginning of this much-needed ministry to seniors. It wasn’t until our third decade, thirty years after our first worship service, that we built our current worship center. Now our two social service centers are connected and our building gives physical witness to the outward focus at the heart of our congregation’s mission.
Present
We seek to lay a foundation upon which to continue deepening and extending our transforming ministries. Daily Lord of Life embodies “life in all its fullness” in many ways. We are blessed with engaging, uplifting, relevant worship. We foster a warm, family atmosphere that is welcoming, open, accepting, supportive and safe. We are passionate about offering ministries that have a transforming effect on individuals of all ages in our congregation and our community. We are more actively engaging in the work of Global outreach. We are one of nine churches participating in the Vibrant Congregations Project, helping to lead the way as the Church finds new ways to understand vocation in the 21st century.
Future
Now it is time to move into the future to which God is drawing us. As we work together to become
God’s tomorrow, our vision is to deepen and extend our ministries by building on our past, anchoring our present ministries and propelling Lord of Life into new territory for the future. As the world around us changes Lord of Life is committed to finding new ways to engage people "where they are".
